School Performances
Bluegrass Youth Ballet offers performances to public and private schools, and to homeschool groups.
School performances are approximately one hour long, plus a 10-15 minute question and answer session
with the Cast and Director, Adalhi Aranda Corn. BYB's school performances expose students to dance,
music, visual arts, and drama, and they are often based on cultural and educational themes. Approximately
3,000 children from Central Kentucky attend Bluegrass Youth Ballet's school performances each year.
Bluegrass Youth Ballet provides teachers with an informative teacher guide, prior to each school performance.
These guides assist teachers in preparing their students for a trip to the ballet, and they include topics
such as Audience Etiquette, Dance History, and Dance Terminology, in addition to specific information related
to the performance.
We receive several requests each year for BYB to bring their performances to schools. While we'd love to
be able to do this, it is not possible at this time. BYB performances include many child performers who
cannot miss more school than they already have to miss for the school performances at the theatre. In
addition, we are not able to move our sets, backdrops, props, costumes, etc. from the theatre to the schools.
We are, however, available for small demonstrations and workshops in the schools. These can be scheduled
through our office.
